about

Written in 2009, recorded in 2020. The most ambitious and varied track of the album. A fully encompassing description would be post-progressive/melodic/technical death/black/folk/doom metal. But that would be way too pretentious.

Loosely based on Plato's Allegory of the Cave.

lyrics

Images dancing on the cave wall
Enough to enchant and entrance us all
Voices speak and echo on
Telling us all that we know… yet…
All our wisdom is based on the image
Created by the fire light behind
Our whole lives are spent in this prison
Gazing at what’s made by the light

Eyes affixed to flickering shadows
Legs attached to the ground where we fall
We are bound by chains that enslave us
Shackled from the time we are born (here)
Suddenly my shackles break
At last my eyes can look away
I turn around and see the flame
The path in front illuminates
I’m blinded by the violent light
As my body is dragged outside
My fragile mind is overwhelmed
Until my sight accommodates
Finally I see the figures making shadows on the wall
Making stories for the prisoners, entertainment and control
All our knowledge of existence otherwise completely false
I become the morning star, I must illuminate them all
And if you cannot see the damage done is truly awful
Then I will show you everything that you have never known
I wish annihilate the images that you've constructed
And shed the light of day into the darkness of your soul
These things aren’t of this world
They’re not like what you’ve seen
To gaze upon their face
Will shatter everything you’ve ever known
Look into the light
Unveil your eyes
And break the shackles that bind
To drag yourselves to freedom
Always denied
Bound and blinded
From start of your life
Hindered by your vision of the divine
A pinhole view with myopic sight
I offer you revelation
I will show you
Keys to the kingdom
I will find you
A path to the light
You will know
The rest of the secrets
All your life
You’ve been dying to find
You will see
That darkness is weakness
Find the strength
Lying dormant inside
Walk on forth
From your blighted existence
Leave the void
It’s time to seek the truth
Your knowledge of shadows
Cannot help to guide you
On your journey from the darkness
Towards salvation
Pain overwhelming the senses
Atrophied from years of enslavement
Climbing still to the unknown
In search of the answer
Rage at a life spent trapped in lies
At knowledge long denied to me
For so many years..
If only I can acclimate my sight
I can pierce the veil
And see behind… and through
Lo… do you see the stars on heaven’s dome?
Do you see the sun shining on earth?
Will you look behind to whence you came?
To the cavern glowing from the flame
Do you see how fire makes shadows dance?
The benighted ones remain entranced
Will you go and tell them all you know?
Liberate them all and give them hope
I make my return
To my old home
(Back) in the cave
I’m blinded again
The light that I gained
Is fading away
The memory remains
The insights were gained
I must break their chains
They must find the way
Dimness of their gaze
Cannot penetrate
Their penumbral thoughts
Can’t accept these words
They will cast me out
Freedom led me to my death
